Often, I sit at my bench with a design planned out in my notebook or scribbled on the wood in front of me. Usually, the piece ends up looking nothing like I had planned. I let the materials dictate what they want to be formed into. If I encounter resistance making a piece shine, it becomes a matte finish instead; if the copper I'm working with refuses to heat oxodize the way I had envisioned it to, I'll chemically treat it instead; and if a heart turns into a mustache, then so be it. I like the way my pieces organically evolve, and although I can replicate the basic design if I choose, each piece is the definition of one of a kind.
